What you can safely try
- Restart the phone before assuming hardware failure.
- Check Settings → Battery → Battery Health for maximum capacity.
- Look into the charging port with a light — visible lint is common and harmless to inspect.
- Back up to iCloud or a computer if the phone still powers on.
When to stop
- Do not dig in the charging port with metal.
- Do not keep charging a phone that gets hot or has a swollen back.
- If the device got wet, stop using it and bring it in — powering it on repeatedly makes corrosion worse.

- Back up if you can, though most repairs don't touch your data.
- Know your passcode. We may need it to test functions after the repair.
- Turn off Find My if we ask you to before the repair.
