What you can safely try
- Try a different HDMI cable and a different TV input before assuming the port is damaged.
- Move the console out of a closed cabinet and give it clearance — heat problems are often placement problems.
- Vacuum around the vents (not into them) and see whether fan noise improves.
- Check the power brick and outlet with something else.
- Note the exact error code the console displays.
When to stop
- Stop plugging and unplugging a loose HDMI cable — you'll finish off the port.
- Don't run a console that's shutting down from heat. Repeated thermal events damage components.
- Don't spray compressed air directly into fans at high pressure; over-spinning them causes its own damage.
- Don't open the console yourself if it's still under manufacturer warranty.

- Bring controllers if the complaint involves them.
- Note the error message or code exactly.
