- Try a different cable and wall adapter before assuming the battery is the issue.
- Enable Optimized Battery Charging to slow future wear.
- Note whether shutdowns happen in the cold — a classic worn-cell symptom.
When to stop
- Stop charging any iPhone that's swelling, hot, or has a lifting screen.
- Never press, bend, or puncture a swollen battery.
- Don't leave a swelling phone charging overnight or in a car.
- Don't fit a kit battery yourself. The cell is glued in, the pull tabs snap, and a battery damaged on the way out is a much bigger problem than the one you started with.
