What you can safely try
- Shine a bright light into the port. If the bottom looks flat and grey, that's compacted lint.
- Try two cables and two power sources, using a wall outlet rather than a car or laptop.
- Test wireless charging — if that works, the problem is almost certainly the port or cable.
- Blow gently with dry air; never spray liquid in.
- Tell us if the phone has ever been wet.
When to stop
- Never dig in the port with a paperclip, pin, or knife. This is the fastest way to turn cleaning into replacement.
- Don't force a cable that won't seat.
- Don't ignore corrosion — it spreads inward toward the board.
- Don't run alcohol or cleaner into a port on a powered-on phone.
